Every day I have about 1.5 hours to kill between my class ending and my daughter's school getting out when I have to pick her up. There's one pond on the way that has a "hard" bottom and today I took a detour to slip into my waders and do just that. Started with a popper (it was the fly I had last used in 2009!), but after a couple casts I put on a muddler. Next cast I brought a LMB to hand (mebbe 1lb). During what was about 45 mins on the water I added 5 BGs to the tally -- two of which were VERY respectable and the others of decent size. All in all, not a bad way to kill some time. Saw a few smaller LMBs in the shallows trying to absorb what few rays were able to get through the clouds. Later this week I'll try the opposite shore where there were some docks and deadfalls.
Since I don't often wade, I forget how much I enjoy the stalking and just being in the water like that. A nice brushy shore that tapered to mid-thigh depth about 6ft from shore, so good for holding fish in the cover and not so shallow that they are easily spooked. The fish were very soft on the take, too. No hard bites or slashes; just soft inhales that you had to react quickly to or lost the moment. Lots of interest the entire length of shore I fished. I'll definitely be back. Maybe with a camera next time.
