Hey Gillbuster |

Been walking the dogs at Delaney Pond. Kayaks, john boats, ranger boat - high water. They are catching bass, calici bass and pickerel on the other gear. Savage pickerel are in the flooded areas - I mean in the tress seacrhing for food. No room to cast in the forest.

B52,
Sharpen your hook, put a new strong leader on, get your best bass bugs prepared and limber your casting shoulder for some heart pounding top water action... Detonation Pike TNT at its best... these fish are so big and mean...you don't know if you are the hunter or the prey....Won't be long....don't let the dogs near the water with those hungry fish |

I'm surprised anyone's catching fish with the high water we've got. Rivers are running full bore and all the ponds are spilling their banks. Given the time of year and the water temps (and the turbidity thanks to the runoff), I'd have figured the fish would be hunkered down with a case of lockjaw.

If it doesn't rain this week and the water drops to a safe level, just maybe it's time to go on a scouting trip to Sudbury River near Fairhaven Bay for Northern Pike?????? The experts say it';s time to fish for them after the ice is gone. I would like to get one with muscles. Throw the bug in the shallows and say come on!!! Hurt me if you can !!!!
I can feel the strain on the rod and screaming reel. |

Hooked into a monster pickerel today that went 4 pounds!! Definetly don't let the small dogs in the water near this gator mouth. Yikes. What a beast. Of course I wasn't prepared with a camera today. Was fishing the new old Heddon rod and reel and I sure got my money's worth today. Some guys on the other side of the pond stopped what they were doing to watch the battle. Amazingly it didn't break me off. I thought for sure the line was going to break. Fortunately the 8lb tippet held up and I was able to land it. Once in I couldn't beleive how thick it was. I mean what a handful. Actually the first attempt it shook itself free even with my best efforts to contain the beast. I cannot imagine what a big pike would be like. Just for scale the Pickerel was about the size of this one I caught fishing with Gillbuster on steroid pond the fall of 2008-

Tyler,
Don't put your float tube in there, you'll come back missing one leg!!!!! There are some BIG gators in there.... I think the river water is still a little high...in a couple of weeks should be prime time.... anyone game for a Saturday/Sunday? |

Talk of Mr. Pick has me thinking a stop at White's Pond might be in order. I think the last time I fished that was three years ago. John, remember the big pickerel (plural) we took out of that place when you passed through the area? They were exploding on yellow deer hair bugs that day.

Yeah, I loked at the gauge after making that post and agree the water still needs to drop a bit. In a couple weeks though I am certainly game, definately not in the float tube though : ) To tell the truth, chasing large pike with any sort of inflatable craft seems a bit risky, but I think I'll at least try to keep my legs out of he water. Come to think of it, the only time I have ever caught a pike was with a spinning rod from a float tube...glad he was only about 20"...

Yes, Mike I remember, that was a real good fishing trip at White's... I imagine those fish are now quite a bit bigger and meaner... I am sure the Pickerel will show those yellow Bass bugs "the love " and explode in anything that looks edible... You need to make a trip and prepare to do battle!!!

Armand,
Make sure your are well armed with an arsenal of flies this year. Here's a video of last years fishing adventure when a mean tempered Pickerel crushed one of Armand's Bugs, unfortunately this fish broke the tippet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1flVlL4Mf8k&NR=1 |
