I really like the Pfluger automatic fly reel number 11 95. It is a true workhorse. I've used this reel to take trout, panfish, carp and even a 37 inch
northern pike. the only drawback it has is its lack of backing capacity. But for its cost it is a winner. WARNING do not attempt to fish for king salmon
with this reel!

Since I have made the move to fiberglass fly rod I have found that on some rods the only reel to balance the is an automatic. As Bill said, the pfluger is a
good reel for the money but it does not allow much if any backing unless you use some of the shorter, less expensive fly lines---good luck I think you will

For the most part, the last thing you need on 99% of warmwater outings is backing. There isn't a bass alive that will run 90' If you think of the 1195
as a bass/panfish reel then its value becomes evident. It's well built (I own one and should probably do a formal review on it and the Martin auto) and
works smoothly. It's substantial and really matches best with 8 1/2 foot glass rods. If you get a nice 8 1/2 2pc rated for an HCH or 7wt line, then fill
the Pflueger up with about 50 yards of backing as filler and a "beginner" fly line like the Orvis Clearwater or SA Headstart - which are just
aggressive bass tapers to help the new caster feel the rod load - you'll have a fine outfit for creek smallmouth and pond largemouth or panfish. I
definitely like the autos when fishing in weeds or pads while wading or from my canoe, that quick one-handed retrieve is superb for "clearing the
deck". Just make sure you set the spring so it only reels in to the end of the fly line and not the end of the leader or you might end up with a shorter
rod!
And never cast to a carp over 10lbs. Joe C. "Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the
