Man I got Cabin Fever bad...got up to 50 degree today.... am I itchin to fish!....Want to throw out some Ideas for some any possible Sat/Sun morning or afternoon fishing trips this spring summer, fall.
I know we have our June gathering in Plymouth all set up...

Trying to see if there is any additional interest for some folks in the greater Boston area to get together for a couple of 3-4 hours of warm water fly fishing this season... possible lake/river/pond suggestions I have...anybody have any other suggestive place to fish?

Sudbury River in Lincoln - Pickerel, bass, big BG
Charles River in Natick or Watertown - Bass, BG
Burrage WMA pond in Hanson- Has lots of EVERYTHING
Watuppa pond in Fall River- lot of ave size bass, big crappie and Muskies
Glen Charlie pond in Wareham - Huge Crappie
Snipatuit pond in Rochester - Bass & Crappie heaven
Coonamessett pond in Falmouth- nice bass and Big BGS
Middle/Mystic pond in Barnstable.. Huge Bass, perch and smallies
John's pond in Mashpee - Smallies, Big Gills, White peerch and LMB
East/West Reservoir in Harwich- stories of big Bass and pickerel

Also would like to toss an idea out for a fairly inexpensive weekend Maine Smallie trip to the Penobscot River in Maine... I have fished the Penobscot many time and it is a smallie heaven 50-75 fish per day in not uncommon...
Here is the place where I suggest we might stay... they will drive you up the river and you float and fish down to the cabin site, check it out... just some thoughts

Being new to the group .Can you fill Me in on the Plymouth gathering in june ? It sounds interesting. There is a pond on the RI -Ma. line called Saudy Pond. Not sure of the spelling ,but it is between Westport ,Tiverton ,Fall river .Good Smallies ,Pics & Large Mouth water .

John those are great suggestions. I would like to also suggest that we ressurect the STS SALTWATER RODEO this year. How about a trip to the Cape some late June Sat. morning? Alec

No guarantees on any of the above, but I'd sure like to try Burrage again (on a slightly warmer and a lot drier day) as well as a salt water rodeo.

Check out three threads on Sam Tisdale Society; Thanks Sam June 08 & Bass Pond annual , Jun 7 -9th 2008.... You made Sam Tisdale proud!!! and Looking forward to '09, We meet twice a year as a group June and September (as many from the Bass Pond that can attend) and fish a pond of choice. This year in June 13th, we are again camping & meeting at Myles Standish Park and fish a couple of hush hush honey holes... break for lunch, gorge ourselves silly with BBQ and Cake....and then fish again in the afternoon until dusk. We would be thrilled to have you join us...it is a fun day, catch some fish, enjoy some warm water fellowship, eat like kings....Live it up "Sam Tisdale's " style...

I have heard of Swady pond.... it is right on the Mass/RI line... I am game to check this pond out some morning afternoon. here is the google map:

Saltwater STS rodeo is fine by me...let's pick a date and time to fish for stripers... We did good at Barnstable harbor couple of year back..Some of you ole Salty Dogs may have some other suggestions... throw them out on the table and we will chew the fat off of it...

Burrage is always great... mid- May to early June is best before the mil-foil takes it over... Kayak with wheels, Canoes with wheels and float tubes are the way to go...guarantee to caught 50-100+ fish...there are some monster bass in there...I have hooked into and lost some hawgs there... the second pond is also very good not as many fish but better qualtiy in my opinion...

One vote for Saltwater ?
One vote for Burrage ?
One vote for Sawdy ?

Problem is too many places to fish and not enough time to go

I think a return to Burrage would be great! Seems to have a lot of potential with multiple ponds but it gets too difficult due to the weed cover to fish in the fall. I am very interested in checking out Sawdy pond some time too if its got some smallies.

From 1976 to 1990, I fished Sawdy with my late friend, Don Carter (not the bowler, died 1992). He would travel from East Greenwich, RI and I travelled from Somerset, MA. This is a serious pond especially the months of July and August. Suggestion fish this pond early. We would meet at Tiverton Four Corners at 4 AM yes 4 am. It was great we fished deer hair and cork bodied bugs. It was amazing bass would watch the bug travel in the air and nail it when it landed. Our method and it was great - one guy would fish, the other paddled. We covered the pond in five hours. Our best day was 75 bass each, our worst day was six each (we had to work at it). This was the only place where the bass did not read the books. Smallmouths would hide under lily pads, that provided for unbelievable strikes with bass flying out of the water. Largemouths on the rocks but would also come out of the water to strike. One memorial morning I watch my friend Don loose three smallmouths in a row ( all over five pounds easily). He didn't strike the fish. He said "Armand, I'm sorry but I haven't woken up yet."

I am excited about the proposed trips and also going to Miane - I would like to catch a five or six pound Smallmouth. Do you know if they allow night fishing in Maine????

By the way, I did very well as a kid fishing in the evening on South Watuppa for smallmouths with a U20 Helin Flatfish Lure and spinning rod, after the third week in June. My best smallie is four pounds. A friend of mine brought a six pound smallie to elementary school (I was a kid) to show me, he was fishing with worms - I was envious

So far ter is an interest in the following
STS Saltwater Rodeo (which is better-sunrise/morning/afternoon/sunset/night?) 4 votes
Burrage WMA pond 3 votes
Sawdy Pond (after Armand's 75 fish report ...(YES, I am in!!!) 4 votes

These are some great ideas we need to jump on...life is too short not to take advantage of fun time fishing opportunities. Any other spots out there from any of the other members?... I have got 6 more tried and true good fishing holes, but I dont want to hog the board...

I'm like Pavlov's dog salivating all over the place...ned to wet a line real bad...

I hate to vote and not make it so I'll pass. My schedule is just that unpredictable. However, I would like to make more STS fishing meetings and will vow to attend whereever I can. ( That spot in ME looks SWEET, John!)
FWIW, I live 1 mi from Saudy. Good pond but parking and access are very limited (especially on the weekend.) Nice part is that the limited and dificult access keeps most of the bigger power boats at bay. Great pond for a jon, canoe, or yak. Hard to get tubes, toons in etc as it's VERY shallow ,mucky and weed/brush choked for the first 1/4 mi on entrance streem. PM me if you want details.

Even though it remains below freezing at night, it looks like the runoff is starting to work its magic on the ice. Some ponds have decent gaps of open water where inlet/outlet flows are significant, others are merely starting to take on that grayness that suggests the ice is rotting from below. I like it... it'll need to warm considerably, but fishing is not far off out this way.

As for gatherings, I suggest we keep it casual. No need to schedule anything other than the two usual events (apart from, perhaps, the rodeo), but keep it impromptu. If someone's got a hankering to go to a particular pond, post it and see who else is game.

I have been out twice & that water is cold . No fish yet ,maybe today . I did see some bait fish in the shallows & that was a good sign. Will not be long now.

Missed the striper outing last year. hope to make it this time, along with the Maine trip too. (the special pond at Myles Standish is a "given").

Would we be floating down in float tubes, canoes, or rentals?

Well Guys, migrating Stripers from NJ have arrived at the Cape...looking for the weekend of May 16-17 for a Saltwater get together to do some shore fly-fishing... looking at possible Barnstable Harbor or nearby Sandy Neck beach (7miles of beach) ...High tide is 4:45am and 5:29 pm on the 16th and 5:40 am and 6:19 pm on the 17th

I also fished Sawdy pond last Saturday for a couple of hours and YES it is a bass haven...as mentioned earlier, its difficult to access and shallow, loaded with rocks LOTS of structure...I highly suggest we try to wet a line & fish this pond some weekend. Caught 12 bass in 3 hours in a awful windy day... I will fish this again for sure...

Do I hear any ya's or na's

Caddis,
Recommend float down the Penobscot in canoes or kayaks, float tubes would be a little risky I think
