Took an opportunity to get out today. Later than I would have liked, and the sun was bright, so I managed to spook a lot of fish with my false casting, but
I managed to catch a couple dinks for my trouble. The interesting part of the day was in turning my canoe over and finding a mouse -- which I caught and
tossed in the pond to see if I might entice a bass into feasting on a real meal (I think he made a safe swim to shore). On the way to the pond I was checking
out for the first time, another mouse crawled out of the dead space in the end of the canoe and leapt onto my windshield before jumping to the ground. That
was kind of fun to watch.
Then, putting the canoe on my car after I was done, a good sized garter snake, which must've been sleeping in the other end, dropped onto my arm. Since I
was tying the boat down, at first I thought it was just the rope, but was a little startled to see the thing slither to the ground, then off into the brush.
Better there than at my house where he'd probably try to eat the frogs in my garden pond.
