I have been looking at the float tube in the basement thinking boy I would like to squeeze in another trip to the local kettle pond before the seasons over. Well I had a window of opportunity today so I topped off the air in the tube and loaded it up. It was a stunningly nice day on the pond for so late in October. There was one truck in the small parking area and indeed I had some company on the water. A small jon boat with two guys working the west shore not far from the launch. I decided to work the shallows on the east bank as I witnessed several fish in front of the launch enjoying the sun's warmth heating the shallows. While I was working my way along the eastern bank casting shoreward I heard some commotion from the other fisherman. I heard a word here and there something like 'net' 'pickerel' and 'camera'. So turning around I can just makeout a very sizeable fish being held up and admired. This pond has quantity not quality for the most part and I have never seen much of any size but enjoy the fishing with appropriate tackle. So at this point I yelled over and asked what they had and the reply was quite surprising. They had what has to be one of the largest pickerel I have ever seen locally. They had a digital scale and it weighed in a whopping 4 pounds!! I had a nice trip catching a half dozen largemouths, a couple yellow perch, several pickerel and more bluegills than I can remember. Pictures to follow...
