Gang,
What another fantastic STS outing, even though the fishing was slow because of the 20+ mph winds, it did not stop this hearty flyfishing group.The scenery, food and fellowship was great...
The Bass Pond had the pleasure of being joined by Max, who proved to be an outstanding flyfisherman. Boy could he throw some fly line even in tuff windy conditions!!!


We had a wide assortment of watercraft to tackle the day's flyfishing adventure. Here is Alec's Duckbucket and Dave's Sea Nymph running at warp speed accross the lake



Weehooker had his secret flyrod arsenal ready to fight those feisty smallmouths, it took him a while to figure the Mystic Middle lake strategy and find out where they were hiding... His 12' Sea Nymph was ideal for these fishing conditions,...Unfortunately we caught a load of small 6-8" yellow perch, but no monsters this September afternoon

As we broke for lunch we had an old fashion New England shore lunch, "STS Style" We chowed down on some great Fried Chicken, Lobster Bisque, and Buffalo Steaks and of course "Thank Sam" cake...


Weehooker telling us about the one got away... It was a monster!!!

Dave's Lobster Bisque was an absolute blue ribbon winner...



Max was a double fisted eater...he worked up a healthy appetite fly casting all morning



During the afternoon fishing adventure, an SOS alarm went out to the Cape Cod Coast Guard station in Barnstable, MA that two STS vessels were in distress, Gillbuster had ran out of Battery Juice and Weehooker had engine problems....They were absolutely helpless, in the high winds and were floating out to sea ... Something had to be done QUICK to avoid a potential tradegy. These two fishermen would be subject to extreme weather exposure, dehydration and scurvy, it would be CNN front headline news, for sure ... A loud SOS distress call came out over the radio to the U.S.S Duckbucket...


Captain Alec (a 13 year old seadog veteran) and First Mate, Max came to the rescue & made a mad dash to help the two distressed fishermen and their disabled vessels


Alec and Max tied both vessels up tandemly and slowly and safely towed them into shore....thus avoiding a perilous outcome.. The 1949 USS Duckbucket, even though she is almost 60 years old proved to be seaworthy, strong and reliable vessel.


The Captain and the First Mate of the U.S.S Duckbucket were highly praised by the gathering crowd on shore and will awarded "Medal of Valor" by the Department of Navy this upcoming January for their heroic rescue mission. When the Captain of the U.S.S. Duckbucket was interviewed after this difficult rescue mission, he stated "These were the two biggest catches he ever made! "

Mystic/Middle Lake was a beautiful body of water . The STS gang had a great time and full of fond memories. We will be back again soon another time to fish this crown jewel of the Cape Cod ponds. Thanks Alec, Dave, Max for the fishing adventure, great food, laughs and an outstanding time...Looking forward for another flyfishing adventure next upcoming year. As you paddle off into the lake's sunset .... wish you all tight lines and full stringers. Thanks again guys...
