Excuse me, but while the suggestion was for flys from some of our gone under tyers, I dont think this swap has been ever limited to such. If so I will withdraw my Daves Hoppers, (Dave Whitlock, still living, and submit a Lee Wulff White Wulff, its a very productive dry fly for everything, and Lee has been gone under for quite a few years and the pattern was established back during the great Depression) (unless this swap is limited only to fly tyers that have gone under during calender 2009 only? if so I will tye a variation of one of Warryn Germons from Austrialia flying termite, sense it was one of his world class one fly examples and catches about everything, that will be my submission!) sense hes only in his later years and not yet gone under. I like hoppers, and his pattern is one of my favorites, its not a simple one like the foam hoppers I contrubuted last year, but a very good one.
As far as classic patterns from gone under tyers, some of the early writtings of Lee Wulff come to mind back when he was having a hard time selling flys during the depression because they didnt fit the "norm"
If the guys here running the Bass Pond want to set a standard for flys, pre approval of pattern thats fine, I will comply or withdraw, but I think that a good example of fly tyeing is last years tye, didn't seen any complaints there.
Along those lines, Alec's magnificent early patterns should by example be required wrapping, frankly his flys are in a window box picture frame here above the computer, I couldnt bear to fish them they are so neat. One of my long dead uncles (dead over 50 years) tyed those patterns for Strawberry lake in Utah along with some really fantastic steamers for trout on the Provo which flows through his property even now in Provo.
I learned to tye flys from him in the very early 50s and one thing he told me then, tye what you like, what you think the fish will hit on and have fun tying flys.
