Haven't picked up a copy of that mag in several months but just so happen to be in the Bears Den yesterday and Scott hooked me up with one. They just came it. And I did see your fly. Congrats on getting it published! |

Armand-
I cannot find Fly Fish America Magazine anywhere. My local fly shop doesn't carry the magazine and Cabelas didn't have it! I'll keep looking. Doug

Doug Fly Fish America is a free publication usually given out by dedicated fly shops. Not sure you will find it anywhere else. |

Armand-
I finally was able to find Fly Fish America Magazine! My local shop stopped carrying it for some reason, but now they have it again.... I have a question. The bug you have on this post has a flared deerhair collar that looks to act like a weed guard, in the magazine you had a mono weed guard. I know bass don't know the difference, but do you like one of the guards better? The only reason I ask is I seem to miss some fish due to the mono weed guard. Being fairly new at spinning deer hair I was excited to see the deer hair collar. I'm assuming the mono guard is better for thicker cover, but I have never really fished a bug with a deer hair collar. On a recent trip to Cabelas I found Jay Fair Saddles reduced from $42 to $9! I stocked up, so I'll be making quite a few of Armand's Snake Bugs for next season. Doug

Mono vs hair weed guard | #6 | ||
|
I kinda gave up on the hair weed guard because I would put cement on the hair but that defeated the purpose being so stiff. You can stroke the hair to be
effective but that only last a while. The fifty pound weed guard allows me to fish in the dense cover, in and on lily pads, around stumps, in trees, on land at
night. Some time Imiss bass especially in real heavy cover. As for saddle hackle, I look for sale items - color is not important. Good fishing
