Gillbuster and I headed back to the scene of last weekends smallie action armed with float tubes.
One of the first things we saw upon arrival were a very large set of deer tracks on the beach. Then out on the pond I noticed a group of ducks and upon watching for a moment realized I just had my first Bufflehead siting of the season. These are artic ducks that migrate to the waters of SE MA to winter over and are fun to watch as they act like the ducks at a carnival shooting range. Half will disappear and just when they reappear on top the others disappear. Couldn't get too close to get a good photo. Apparently they are a little camera shy
.
The weather really could not have been nicer for the first week in November. It was a stellar day and as was said several times throughout the day it doesn't get any better. Gillbuster missed last weekends foray to the Smallie Honey Hole but built up some serious good karma helping someone else in need and it paid off today.
As the day wore on there were numerous occasions where I glanced over my shoulder only to see his vintage 7ft Wonderod was doubled over again. At one point he was bulldogged by a very fiesty smallie that literally had him going in circles
.
Late in the afternoon there were freshly hatched red flying ants all over the glass calm surface which you can see in one of the pics. In the end I think Gillbuster out fished me in the smallies by a good margin but it was a perfect a November day of float tubing and would have been enjoyable even if we had got skunked.
Huge thanks to our host and Gillbuster!
Enjoy,
