I have been perusing a copy of Art Shecks Fly-Fish Better book and while reviewing his suggestions for flies got inspired to try tying one of his shiner muddlers. Granted with no exact instructions it is my interpretation of it. But I test ran it tonight for ten minutes (all I had) on the way home and had 4 fish quite literally pounce on the fly!!
Two bluegills, one crappie and a largemouth. All in ten minutes. It was late afternoon maybe an hour and a quarter before sunset with calm wind making the surface like glass. The pond surface was littered with leaves and white pine needles blown off in the very strong winds that accompanied yesterdays frontal passage. All four fish struck the fly with attitude!
Guess I have to tie up some more of them. I just received the hair to tie it from Chris Helm and cannot recommend him enough for your deer hair needs.
