Last weekend, took my 13 y/o nephew fishing at the Quabbin Reservoir (first time there for me). What a beautiful body of water, an absolute
jewel... this was famous Bill Plummers old stomping ground. We fished with UL spinning gear and caught about 30 fish total, mostly small bass (LM &SM),
pickerel and yellow perch, plus many lost fish. It cost $40.00 to rent one of the DCR boats with 9 horse engine for all day use, a great deal.. You can use
your own boat with restrictions. You can not cover the whole lake in one day, it is too big, the Total Quabbin Reservoir Watershed Area is 119,940 acres. We were serenated by bald eagles throughout the day, plus northern
loons during the evening hours. I think this would be a great spot for a June Bass Pond gathering in the future. This body of water is only 20 minutes from
Rohunta lakke which we fished last year. Pottapaug pond (located at Gate 43, much shallower than the main lake) is a healthy sized pond that is renowned for
warm water fishing and has easy acces, rental boats as well as canoes and kayaks are allowed. This would be an ideal location for a Fly fishing adventure and
plan on going back to try it out. Most experienced Quabbin fisherman catch 4-5 pound smallmouth at 40-50 feet deep using drop-shot rigs?? or trolling. Trout
and salmon are also caught in great numbers. and trolling with deep sinking line would be fun.. Here is the link: Has anyone else fished the Quabbin??
