Went to the Bears Den to pick up some tying supplies and saw this foam Slider pattern (see example below) ... A light bulb went off! bought some medium sized
foam sliders and tried a different foam style pattern. Instead of using the pointed end toward the eye of the hook to make the fly dive, like a slider is
suppose to, I reversed the foam 180 degrees on the hook and used the open end of the bell towards the eye of the hook to make it more like a Gurgler style
pattern. Experimenting, I then tie a clump of Deer hair at the bend of the #2 hook to anchor it with some super glue. Then added some Hackle legs for frog like
appearance and then added and glued the foam bell tightly to the hook. The open end captures a lot of water and creates some awesome top water action when
retrieved, easy to cast and bubbles/gurgles wonderfully.. Looks like a peeper frog from underneath as the fish are looking up at it and it catches fish..When
my wife gets back from Texas, I will take some pictures (she has the good camera) and you can let me know what you think of my new frog creation...Another
bugging creation for fly fishing on the dark side....
