What flies do you use for crappies?

Hi Bill;
Nice fish, I like how you composed the picture with fish on top of coils of fly line. Wayne |

Bill---do you run into many other fly fisherman or fisherwoman while fishing the city lakes? Do you have to worry about the backcast? When I was in New York
for new years there where a lot of people even in the winter to look out for.

I always recommend that you learn to be proficient at roll casting or single hand spey casting when fly fishing in NYC. there is very little room for back
casting here. There are many fly fishers here. Since I learned to fly fish in the city parks as opposed to in a river, roll casting was imperative. every
day i see fly fishers who have difficulty casting because there are trees & people everywhere in the parks. The first few years I fly fished were spent
using rods less than 9 feet long. I still have my arsenal of 5', 6' & 7' rods. It was easier for me to back cast with a shorter rod. Two
years ago I went to spey casting school. It took a while and a couple of switch rods to learn the technique. I now can fish with 9 foot & switch rods in
the city parks without having to back cast to reach my target. I believe that everyone should learn the spey technique. it increases the area you can reach
with your fly.
