Happy Spring! |

It's official. The vernal equinox has arrived and winter is (finally) in the rear-view mirror. It'll still be a few weeks before things warm up
enough to make it worth the effort, but I'm happy that spring is here.

As much as I enjoy winter I agree I am happy to see this one behind us too! Weekly lashings of foul weather for the first half of winter really were wearing on everyone I think. But the days are progessing nicely in length and the promise of some spring fishing has arrived. The stocking trucks rolled this week on Cape Cod and Southeastern MA. All the usual places have received their first allotments so the trout and the pickerel fishing is a go!! |

When I was a kid I think opening day used to be Patriots Day weekend and the stocking trucks would dump their loads well in advance (usually during Feb & March). There are some waters that should get more protection and I think the state should pay more attention to improving its warm water fishing through proactive management. Mike |

Old days vs new | #4 | ||

I remember opening day of Trout Season. My dad took me to Segregansett River on Williams St, Dighton, MA. I counted twenty cars along the road way. The scene
was devestating. My spirits were low. I carried my can of worms made my way downstream away from everyone fishing arm to arm in the closest pools to the road.
It was like I entered heaven. The sun came through the clouds, wind died down, gone were the sounds of people talking, birds started singing. I made my cast,
didn't get hung up, worm drifted in the current. The magic of catching trout. Unfortunately in that time, we came from poverty flats. We kept what we
caught and ate. That was 1953, I was nine years old.
About five years ago I started going back to all the places I fished as a kid. I have only met one person fishing. The crowds are all gone. No kids fishing. The trout are still there. Times are different I release all the fish I catch. I do get hung up in the trees when excited at a rise. It still a beautiful time to be on the water. It gives you time to think about things. It gives you time to take all the beauty in, a gift from God. It's also a Time to thank and talk to God. About bass fishing. I don't get serious until July and August. I don't like the idea of fishing tournaments during the winter and spawning times - I feel they should be protected. Every time I catch a large or smallmouth I am amazed that these beautiful fish reproduce and thrive naturally and we all owe it to God and Sam Tisdale. And you my bass pond brothers, I am truly blessed at being a part of your family. It's cold today but don't worry God is in control and yes the world is crumbling financially, morally but - we are in His Care. |

Things will get better.Hope you all enjoy the season. mike....bamboo |

Armand,
Couldn't say it any better myself, we are all blessed without realizing it, we get caught up in this materialistic crazy fast paced world......just have to look a little harder to see it...Fishing just keeps us grounded |

Good story Armand. I have fished the Segregansett a bit and enjoyed it. I have never seen those kind of crowds though and couldn't imagine what it was like. |

Well the storm rolled in this weekend, here at home on saturday night an sunday we dropped to 28 degrees and snow and hail, the high country above was closed
again for at least a week, snow gates closed, warm and sunny today, out and about above snowline, but again waiting for the golden trout wilderness to open its
snow gate acess.
