Here's a little cork bodied popper tied in an old Heddon style. The paint I used for the cork is just horrible - Testors flourescent enamel - it has the
consistency of water even when well mixed - you get very poor coverage. I will get better paint and tie up a bunch in this style for the coming season. This is
a rough one, but hey, it's a start. Alec

Alec----I have a couple of questions about the fly: 1) what type of feathers were used 2) how did you get the hook into the cork-dill a hole or cut a groove
in the bottom. I like the looks of the old style flies.

Hey Midmofly - The yellow feathers are dyed Lady Amherst pheasant - there are red goose cussettes under them. The body is a cork stopper from the craft store -
I cut a very thin slot in the bottom of the cork with a scroll saw blade - very small and up to the center of the cork. I apply a Duco type cement to the slit
in the cork with a bodkin, spread evenly, and to the hook shank. The hook is a Mustad 33903, bent shank, size 4. I insert the hook shank into the slot and then
spread some of the cork dust from cutting the slit over the wet cement. Wait for the cement to dry and paint the body. Wait for the paint to dry and tie
'em up. I intend to tie a bunch of these and will post pics as I go along. I forgot to put a tail on this one

Great looking fly, A true classic. I see some old Heddons for sale on ebay occasionally and they go for big $$$$. John |

Those old bugs are neat! I picked up a set of laminated cards on ebay, that shows a bunch of them, and the relative value for each one. I'm not a
collector, but I've always liked to copy some of the by-gone days lures & flies, since I remember many of them from ads in magazines while I was
growing up. I guess I'm getting nostalgic in my older years!
One of these days I'll get around to making some of them!
