Yesterday evening, I went to a lily pad choked pond near my home (Prospect Pond) and tried out a new fly ... Sorry no pictures, it was threatening rain... Weather here in Mass has been humid and fish are hitting on top water like mad during evening hours. I have had great luck with the "goldie" which we have posted numerous times. But this time, I wanted some top water action for a change...

So, I tried some thing new, took a long shanked #6 aberdeen hook and used @ 6" of 1/8" strip of yellow foam... lined and tied it to the whole straight part of the hook to make the hook float. Then I tied (4) 4" strips of gold bodie braid at the tail, then (6) 2 " strips of gold bodie braid towards the head. I left a bulk foam head and tied a orange collar. The whole fly is a bout 2 1/2-3 1/2" long. I tied it to the bass leader using a rapala knot to give it additional free floating action...Wow, I had top water action like a sluggo when I stripped it, only it slurped when I stripped it...

1.5 hour of fishing results

3 hefty bass...each about 2.5 - 3 lbs
5 average crappie
1 huge white perch
4 aggressive bluegills

Numerous Explosive action with missed fish ....experience priceless

I think we need to try and visit an old haunt this weekend so get in touch if you are free. By the way don't forget to put the three mile not far from you on your list of places to try this season. I will try and get you the access info....

Sorry for the lousy pictures... didn't take pictures on several trips because of threatening rain and showers...Now that the hot weather has taken hold here in New England, been fishing floating Goldie's and foam frogs for the last couple of weeks with great results... Tried top water fishing @ 3 different ponds (Prospect, Gushee, and Snipatuit) and the largemouths have inhaled them...the faster you strip them top water, the more violate the strikes... the floating goldie I found works great with # 6 hook and x-large foam boobie eyes instead of a weighted bead head. Put a drop of superglue next to the eye of the hook and set in place. Tie your bodie braid as you would a normal goldie...it works like a rapala or a injured minnow on the water... lots of top water stikes from, not only bass but, BG, crappie, white bass and nasty, fly stealing, toothy pickerel

Fish like this 2+ lb bass hide among the milfoil, lily pads and eel grass; when the goldie floats by an open weedless pocket... BOOOM! it is like a cherry bomb went off

Crappie can't resist coming to the surface and jumping clear out of the water and attack this fly

Snipatuit is a loaded with 1.5-2.5 lbs bass. They were chasing dragonflies all along the shore line...dang, didn't have a dragonfly imitation or I would have owned the lake this morning

Gushee bass love frogs...the heaviest slop I could find the more strikes I got...My Fenwick got a good workout this day

Lilly pads = Home Sweet Home for Mr Bass and family at Gushee Pond...

Well, I am off to try another Snipatuit cove as the hunt for Mr Bass continues...weather permitting I will post some more pics. Tie up some floating Goldie's and foam frogs... the top water results are thrilling

You mentioned some interest in the Goldie fly, browse thru the website at variety of fish caught by some of our group with this fly, its a real killer. We look forward to seeing pictures and post of some of your catches. For those member of this site, Shakefly is a highly noted fly fisherman on the www.newenglandfishing.net website and is quite active in fly fishing for trout, stripers, salmon throughout New England. As you can see, we target Warm water fish for the joy of fly fishing and nostalgic history...We are just a easy going bunch of rag tag old geezers who like to brag, take picture, share information, eat BBQ when we get together as a group which is usually tin June and September. Floating Goldie renamed Cherry Bomb

Last summer, one of my most awesome flies that out produced many others was the Floating Goldie. I improved it and really looking forward to fishing it again this summer, especially at night. The Floating Goldie has tremendous action on top water and when you twitch it, fish can't stand it...results in a top water explosion like a Cherry Bomb went off....Well that's what I am renaming it. Here are my update variations of the Floating Goldie i.e. Cherry Bomb.

Cherry Bomb Goldie

Cherry Bomb Herring

Looking to getting together for a night time bass bugging excursion dusk to 2 am in July or August... Tentatively thinking of several lakes/ponds. Any interest from any top water bass buggers ??

I am taking a x-large flat boobie dumbbell eyes and cutting half, super gluing to eye of hook long ways and tying the bill bodie braid behind it, I am also using small piece of foam and tying it along the shaft of the hook for extra buoyancy. It fishes like a Rapala Shad Rap, but the braid material ungulates on top of the water like crazy, as if it is a struggling fish

Thanks for the introduction Gillbuster!! My Work shut down this link for a few days, but I made friends with the saltwater fly fisherman IT guy who got me back and running

Another site for me to browse during the day!!

I am going to be targeting a lot more panfish and trout next year, as I am getting into the Ultralight fly fishing craze. I have a one weight that I am going to be using extensively throughout this coming fishing season!

I am going to be picking up some more material hopefully this evening

and am hoping to tie some goldies! I am going to grab a size 8 hook and some beads and bills bodi-braid and mylar. Let's see how this works!

I guess. ... It's just really annoying...

but as for bamboo... oh yeah, I got the bug. But i think the ultralight fly fishing bug hit be harder.
