Has anyone ever used or heard anything about these reels? I found some on sale for $150 and I have Christmas money burning a whole in my pocket. I just ordered the Eagle Featherlight 5 wt rod this morning. I have never fished a fiberglass rod before. I was planning on just swapping my current reel over to the new rod, but this reel caught my eye. I was kinda thinking about a click and pawl reel, since I have never even used the drag while landing any of the fish at my local ponds. The only thing is that I could buy 10 reels that perform the same for that amount. It would definitely be more of a treat instead of a necessity. It says the reel is almost 6 oz. I would hate to spend the dough and find out it is a pile. Any comments are welcome-you won't hurt my feelings.

my advice is to go for it. I know nothing about the reel but you seem to want to buy it. The worst that can happen is that you sell it on eBay.

They are neat reels and a good way to check out an attractive classic style without killing your bank account. This style of reel is heavier than other reels
because of its design. Wht length is your Eagle Featherlight and how much does it weigh?
I would be willing to sell you my excellent Highland Mills reel shipped for $105.00. I have used it twice. It balances well on my fiberglass Fenwick 7'6" 5 wt. and also on my Lyons 8' 5 wt. which weighs 4 ounces. I liked this reel from the start, but found a great deal on a Peerless (otherwise I would keep it) so this baby has no rod to fish anymore. I was going to list it for sale soon and saw your post. Paul thats a nice offer unless he has a gift certificate he is trying to use. I saw the Highland Mills Bamboo recently featured in the Cabelas catalog but know nothing about them. |

I bought the 5wt 6'6" featherlight, at $25 shipped I had to try it. I have no idea what the weight in oz. is. I think I can weight it on a food
scale though. I have to leave town straight from work this afternoon, but I am returning Sunday evening. When I get home I will weight it and get back to

classic style reels are heavier than the "normal" style. It might be too heavy for your rod in that the rod is quite short.

Thank you for your offer on the reel, but I must pass at this time. My relaxing weekend trip turned into everything but relaxing. My wife and I got to her
grandparents pretty late Friday night and then stayed up most of what remained of the evening talking and visiting. I awoke early the next morning to get in
some fishing before everyone else started the day. I went out to the truck and it started just fine, but the dash read "reduced engine Power." I let
the truck warm up, but nothing happened. The truck is only 3 years old so I knew something serious was wrong when the throttle was unresponsive. I called AAA
and arranged for a tow the next day. The closest mechanic was about an hour away and wasn't open till Monday. Then I spent the remainder of the day
patching drywall in our grandparent's garage.
I was able to borrow the ranch truck so that my wife and I could make it back to Austin for work on Monday. Keep in mind that this truck is not really meant for driving at highway speeds, let alone for 6 hours straight. You should have seen some of the office emails I got Monday morning when people saw this crazy beat up old truck with a cattle feeder bolted into the bed. I talked with the mechanic Monday afternoon. Turns out, a rat had gotten into the electrical and chewed up the wires. He said it is pretty common in those parts when the temperature drops. So tomorrow morning we are getting up early and heading to pick up the truck and spend another weekend in Olney Texas. If the weather improves a little, I just might be able to fish a little. That is the long drawn out version of why I can not buy a new reel. I am however, the proud owner of a pick-up with brand new wiring. |
