Joe-

Next time you are here in MN give me a heads up! I am a die hard smallmouth fanatic and spent every free minute on the St Croix River and the Upper
Mississippi. I'd love to turn you on to a few spots!

The Snake River is fun, but those rocks are so slick! Great place to fish though. The Upper Mississippi is just incredible, has great riffles and deeper pools.
The place I hit on the Old Muddy has prime smallmouth habitat with large rocks and large downed trees, but very easy to wade. The deeper pools on the
Mississippi are key to finding the fatties! My FF806 and FF85 got a workout this year!

The St Croix River is great, but you need a canoe to be really effective (in my opinion). I have caught a few very nice fish in the St Croix, but for good old
fashioned wading you have to hit the Upper Miss.

Great pictures and thank you for posting.
I fished a crayfish imitation first thing and took a couple chunky smallmouth on an Orvis FullFlex 6wt 7' glass rod. But the wind was gusting hard to 20mph
and I needed more line to control the casts. The pic above was taken on the way out after things died down. I went...
