I love the magic of an old book on bass bugs and fishing. I wish I had Tom Nixon's book on Fly Tying and Fishing for Bass. He once wrote me for permission
to use an article I wrote Bug for whales. It was on 6/0 bass hook.
AD Livingston's book, although not as in depth as Ellis' book, is neverless a fun read and is my 2nd favorite book.

Joe Brooks Bass Fishing and John Alden Knight Black Bass Fishing. I keep checking Alibris.com. My Joe Brooks Copy is from a library through Alibris, I got it
dirt cheap. It says Library Copy but I'm not proud. Knight's book got me thinking today, I may be making balsa wood poppers again. Through the years I
have made cork, foam and balsa poppers, balsa poppers are my favorite for fresh and salt water bugs. My best friend the late Don Carter (died 1992) was the
best balsa bug maker ever. I also look at Heddon Catalog 1950 and admire the beautiful bugs in their catalog.

I think it's time for a bug/fly post column in the Bass Pond.

Thanks, B52. Sounds like the book would be worth adding to my collection as I go after bass with all those methods.

I share your love for the literature. I've been collecting fishing and flytying books for several decades now and currently have well over 300 volumes.
I've told my wife and kids to donate them to a local library when I die so others can enjoy them.

This book by Robert Page Lincoln, is not strictly a book on fly fishing. It covers bait casting and spinning also. It gives a indepth coverage of fly fishing,
spinning and bait casting. Giving detail info about the gear at the time used. In the bass bugging chapter talks about the new Shakespeare Howald process,
where bamboo fits in. Chapter on bugs. The book came out in 1952, I read the book 1955 - I was eleven years old. My fly rod was Wright McGill Sweetheart, but I
knew someday I had to have a Shakespeare then eventually an Orvis bamboo. What was lacking in Page's book was illustrations especially about deer hair
bugs. This actually cause me to use my mind.

Sometimes if the weather is not right for fishing. I will pick up one of these treasures and read again. I am amazed how great bass bugging was in the 1920 to
1950. I think spinning changed everything. My father and I were big into Field & Stream Fishing Contest in fifties, sixties and seventies. I wondered...

Black Bass and the Flyrod by Waterman is my favorite to read for pleasure. Clouser's Smallmouth is the most impressive overall. Murray's Fly Fishing
for Smallmouth Bass is a classic and should be in every angler's library who proclaims a love for moving water. Finally. Will Ryan's Smallmouth
Strategies for the Flyrod breaks the most new ground and is a MUST READ for northern or lake anglers.

Armand thank you very much for posting that photo of your personal library of Bass Fishing books! I don't have a favorite Bass Bug book myself yet but am
slowly building a collection of fishing books. I have received some excellent tips from members here, particulary Alec, on books that I should watch for. Just
the other night I was reading Americas Favorite Fishing that was a tip from Alec and cost me all of one dollar and under five with shipping. That is a fabulous
book and I was reading the chapter on White Perch. So last night as luck would have it I was fortunate to catch a couple of white perch.

I was also fortunate enough to pick up the first edition of Tom Nixon's book cheap from www.abebooks.com that was
former library book from one of the Hawaiian Islands. Apparently not a popular topic as the book was in perfect condition.

I would like to add that anyone interested in purchasing...
