Gang,

Just finished listening to CNN news (depressing as always), Secretary of Energy says he thinks gas will be close to $4.00 a gallon this summer....I may be
fishing a little closer to home this year to cut down the expenses, but not much, fishing is all I have to keep my sanity. My costs have never been that much

Yeah, it affects me pretty seriously. I have one lake two miles from home that is closed for renovation, which means the fishing won't be worth crap for a
few years there, I have another about 4 miles from home that I fish A LOT. We were planning a camping trip as a family down to southern MO, but that is a 5+ hr
drive at 55mph most of the way, so do the math there...that is over $135 on gas alone in a 4 cylinder ($45 to fill from E at $3.56/gal), now we have a 1 yr
old, so needs to be a hotel room $80/night, and MO out of state permits and trout tags ($45 each), so total, before food, drink, etc, looking at $400 or so,
before any of that...guess what, the state of MO will not be getting my money. We will have to find something closer to home here so we can afford to live
while on this vacation.

I need to get a moped to ride the gravel to the city lake.

My fishing buddies and I ride bicycles to all of our spots to fish. Saves a ton of money, but, Wichita actually has plenty of public ponds with easy access and
it's actually makes the fishing a bit more memorable... Now I just have to make a trailer to haul my pirogue behind my bicycle(I'll probably wind up on
the news for that one-lol)

Cut back on fishing?????? Are you kidding??? NEVER!

I've got a 15 minute commute to work and lots of small lakes/large ponds, creeks and a smallish river all within about 20 minutes in my pick up....so
it's not too bad.

I got a kayak this Spring so that I can expand my fishing on th ponds closest to home.

Move to the fish, I think sense Ive retired the normal months gasoline usage varies between 20-30 gallons including the every 6wk drive into the bigest town
nearby (160 miles round trip) to go to the supermarket, walmart and such. The rest just here on the river and lake if I want to go farther than I want to walk
from home. River edge of the lake is just a mile below the house.
We are already at $3.99.9 here and always run around $.40 a gallon above the state average, they have to truck everything in from that same big town threw our
narrow winding canyon rod.

One of the reasons I decided to take up FW fly fishing was it started getting too expensive to drive to the Salt to fish for Stripers. Up until two years ago
June when I met up with the Bass Pond crew at Burrage I hadn't bought a FW license in 10 years. I love fly fishing for stripers but when gas broke 2.00 a
gallon I realized I had to cut back the number of trips. I am enjoying hitting the FW again though I am not sure I saved myself any money

I have 7 ponds and 3 rivers within a 10 mile drive so it doesn't affect my fishing at all. When I expand out to about a 40 min drive I have more fishing
available to me than I can fish in a year! When I go fishing the price of gas isn't even considered. I will cut back on other things if I have to but not
my fishing.

When I moved to Cape Cod I had one goal in mind... HOME WATERS. I am glad I live in a place that has great
fishing steps from the front door. Seven minute commute to my job with a six-cylinder engine, four would be even better. I can fill the tank and have it last a
couple weeks - thank goodness. Gas isn't going anywhere but up, up, up. Alec

The last time i took my daughters skiing, it cost me $76.00 to drive 500 miles. In a way i'm lucky; i sold my car in 2000. I use public transportation
for most of my fishing trips(salt, cold & warm water). I can fish a different fishery everyday and not need to drive a car to go fishing. "I live

I can't believe the politicians arguing about sex and race - no body addressing the issue of our sliding economy. I live in beautiful Massachusetts and I
have to tell you the govenor, and the two senators make me sick. The light's on but nobody home. They are worried about illegal immingration and how we can
give them the store and what's in it. I like all kinds of fishing but I think this will be the year for bass and pan fishing from my 12 ft canoe. I am
going to enjoy every moment as if it was the last day of my life. Hope the price of a license doesn't go up. Hopefully Deval won't increase the license
to fund the general treasury.
