I have been doing a bit of night fishing for Trout this fall and it got my interest in learning a bit more. So I came across a recommendation for an old book
called "Taking Larger Trout" by Lawrence R. Koller. This book has a whole chapter dedicated to fly fishing for trout at night. Well I just received
my copy and have to say it is a very fine book. It is well written and contains a lot of timeless information. It was written or published in 1950 and
reprinted in 1952. Seems that Ray Bergmans book 'Trout' from that period garners most of the attention but this is also a very worthy book to consider
if you enjoy collecting or reading old fishing books. Highly recommend.

The amazing muddler does it again...

Stopped by a stocked trout kettle pond on the way home tonight. Have made a few trips to this pond of late and am really enjoying it. Partly motivated by
reading Roy Ls recent article about catching Brown Trout at night in the New England Edition of On The Water Magazine. I had seen his photos last fall on
another forum and the article got me motivated to get out a try with the fly rod (he often uses jointed Rapalas).

First trip last week went very well with me taking 5 rainbows after dark on a #8 Flashdancer Muddler. The timing last week was ideal as the fish were extremely
active. In addtion to the caught fish there were numerous hits and a couple thrown hooks. The water was alive with boils when I arrived at sunset and the fish
stayed active well over an hour after dark.

I was thrilled with the results and it motivated me to go back the next night. Arriving at sunset again it wasn't quite as active with...

A buddy and I have begun to chum carp to encourage them to eat. we've had success with dog food pellets. The pellets will float and carp will then begin
to take flies on the surface. I've used deer hair flies, glo bug flies so far. Cat food pellets work also. this technique for getting carp active has
only been tried on lakes and ponds but should work in slow moving rivers and streams. Now i expect you guys to go out and get carp. if you chum them they
will come!
