Unless it's too painfully early, I was looking for some suggestions for a spring trip. A friend of mine was over tonight and we were talking about a spring cape cod trip. We usually fish the salter streams but this year we were talking about bringing the canoe and hitting up a few ponds and/or estuaries as well for some white perch. I'm mostly a "trout guy". I've caught some whiteys but never targeted them specifically.
I know most of the ponds down there have them, any stand out as a good place to fill a stringer?
Also any fly suggestions? Floating, int, or sinking line?

I' ve been fishing most days this week, Staten Island, Long Island & Manhattan Island. I finished by taking out the ol' switch rod which is now
loaded with a skagit shooting head and fished Prospect Park near the boat house. BGs and crappie were active this evening. I caught about a dozen fish
before 6:00pm. there was activity on main part of the lake.

I finally caught a carp at cloves lake in the spilway between pools #2 & #3. there are a lot of channel catfish there too. the next day Iwent to bethesda
fountain and had several carp on a #5X tippet managed to land the last one. yesterday I went to argyle lake in babylon. fishing for carp was not easy(cloudy
& overcast). I could only see carp here and there but i managed to hook one after hours of standing motionless near a tree. the fish would spook whenever
the wind cause the branches to move. I hope to go carpin a few more times before it is too cold. what a rush to see your spool un...

Finally got around to putting the canoe in the Squannicook River in the area along Townsend Road in Groton above Rt. 225 (actually above the dam at
Hollingsworth & Vose). Wow. The fishing was slow, though I did catch two pickerel and one small bluegill, and missed one nice strike, but I didn't
get that far down and still was impressed with the many cut banks and backwaters. Pretty place to be, and I know there are some good fish in that part of the
river. Actually, the pond area directly above the H&V dam is supposed to be decent and doesn't get much pressure. I've lived about 10 minutes
from that place and this is the first time I've fished it (though I did fish the small pond above the Rt 225 dam once and got some nice bluegills).
I'll be back.

Inspired by the recent fall weather after a couple weeks of opressive humidty ( the extent of our 'real' summer) here in the northeast I pulled out my
terrestrial box and put the rod back in the car. Stopped at a couple of spots yesterday. One favorite that I drive by on the way home which I hadn't fished
in over a month.

A dime sized foam beetle imitation in black with black rubber legs a shiny jade green belly and a red dot on the back has been my go to for panfish this time
of year for several years now. Picked them up at the bears den in Taunton. Not sure who makes them but the fish take them with abandon.

For comparison I tried a standard chernobyl and in a size 10 and they are very curious about that but don't pounce on it like the beetle. In a matter of
15-20 minutes I took at least 8 nice fish with the beetle. With several nice Calicos or crappies in the mix. The takes were very agressive too!

Well, went out again last night to do some bass buggin at a kettle pond on Cape Cod.. Full moon, 5-10 mph, SW wind, fished from 11:30PM - 3:30 am... this pond
is very clear and shallow on one side of the pond with a lot of docks, surprisingly not a lot of fish caught around the docks at night... caught about 18
fish all night... lost about ten good fish and wicked hard strikes. Pond report has noted small mouth and large-mouth in it... I did catch one large-mouth
about 1 lbs and one small mouth same size on deer hair frogs... frogs were croaking on one side of the pond and there is where I caught the bass...nice fight
and lots of jumps...

But what surprised me, was the aggressive white perch and HUGE bluegills in this pond caught on bass bugs... The BGs were all of a pound, 1" thick or
better and pulled on my 8wt like it was a toothpick...As Armand says "they were so old and big, they had whiskers," ...I thought I had a huge Bass
for sure and was...

from a Larry Dahlberg pattern with a lot of gold flash in them, they just look toooooo good not toss on a 4 wt... WOW!!! started casting along the shoreline
and cast it by a submerged tree top and caught about 3 dozen 10+ inch Black crappie as fast as I could put the fly in the water...plus I missed as many fish as
I hooked into... caught some nice yellow perch and Bull Gills also...Action was fast and furious....would cast the Muddler out, stripped the line 2-3 time to
dive and then let it float for 3 seconds on top.... BAM!! Crappie two a time would jump clear out of the water and crush onto the fly, they were fighting over
